Since 2010, Karen Voelkel and her team have been caring for the health of animals of the homeless. in Hamburg on a voluntary basis, together with the GRC Wandsbek (German Red Cross) homeless charity. The project has been operating since 2008 in collaboration with the Hamburger Tierärztekammer (Hamburg Chamber of Veterinarians) and the Franziskus Tierheim (St. Francis Animal Shelter).
The drive takes place on the first Monday of every month at 8 pm in front of the Karstadt building at the corner of Mönckebergstraße and Gerhard-Hauptmann-Platz.
Please bring proof of your dog’s liability insurance and your dog license.
On Monday evenings, we can only provide limited care, including vaccinations and parasite treatments. Since 2014, a donation account is available for financing more complicated treatments.
The homeless charity work we do in collaboration with the German Red Cross is exclusively for the animals of the homeless. As part of this work, the dogs of homeless people without a permanent address are treated for free. Please understand that this offer is for the homeless only and that no exceptions can be made.
